Ana Vaz

Born in Brasilia, the modernist capital of Brazil, from the encounter of my parents in the making of a film. The film formed my symbolic conception of my city of birth and inspired in me a search for the symbolism, expressionism and experimentalism in forms of expression. I left Brazil at the age of seventeen, coming to Melbourne to further develop my interests through high school and university. I graduated from media at RMIT in 2007 with my first work, "Sacris Pulso", a found footage experimental film. This film screened at the 2008 Melbourne International Film Festival, and short film festivals as Cannes, Madrid and Mexico.

Now I am developing my next project in honours at RMIT, founded on expanded cinema, the politics of identity and violence through the works of Kristeva, Grosz Viola and Derrida.
